Welcome Letter
Collapsible
There is nothing quite like summer at YMCA Camp Eberhart. We may have been dealt a basket of lemons for resident camp this year, but we are so exciting to turn them into lemonade and still be able to offer Family Camp Weekends! Thank you for signing your family up and planning to join us for a great weekend of family and fun! In this letter you will find more information on what you can expect for the weekend, the activities being offered, meal-service and more.
Check-In: Check-in is on Friday evening from 6-8pm at Klinger Hall.
In response to Covid-19, we ask all guests that are able to wear a mask for check in. All guests will be required to go through a wellness screening that consists of a temperature check and 3 questions pertaining to overall health and wellness. We ask that everyone pre-screen your family at home during the week before your arrival for fever or signs/symptoms of Covid-19. Should anyone become ill, please contact our office to discuss options. If you are unable to arrive between 6-8pm on Friday night, please send us an email so we can plan accordingly to complete your screening. All guests (including children) must have a separate, signed waiver on file with camp. We have attached the waiver to this email for your convenience. While there will be copies available at check-in, you will save significant time by filling them out in advance. We appreciate your support in bringing them already completed!
Check-Out: Check-Out is Monday at Noon.
There is no need to stop by Klinger Hall on your way out, but please be sure to place all garbage in the provided garbage cans, separate cardboard for recycling, check for lost and found and turn the lights off in your lodge on your way out.
What should we pack for a great family camp experience?
Packing for camp is a fine art! You can easily pack too much or not enough. There are absolutely essentials you should bring:
- Twin size fitted sheet for your mattress

- Bathing Suit and Towel (a few plastic bags to take wet suits home in is always helpful!)
- Toiletries, including: bath towel for showers, face cloth, shampoo/conditioner, toothpaste, etc.
- Sunblock!
- Water bottle(s) - We will have igloo’s of ice water out for refilling water bottles but due to Covid-19 we will not have public drinking fountains available.
- Lawn chairs for around your fire pit

*Please note that while we love all animals, personal and family pets are not permitted at family camp.

- The Snack Shack for Ice Cream, Chips and Candy Bars will be open Saturday afternoon. All items are $1.00 or $2.00, cash only.
- Families are welcome to bring charcoal grills and cook outside their lodges if they prefer. We have attached a few simple ideas for delicious food cooked around the campfire!
Keeping Families Safe at the Lodges
Due to Covid-19 we have limited the number of guests that will be joining us at Camp Eberhart for the family weekends. This year we only have 104 total guests for Labor Day Family Camp. You may notice that there are more beds in your cabin than the max number of guests we have allowed. We would like to encourage proper distancing and ask that family members spread out accordingly in their lodge. Additionally, we have only opened lodges that provide for personal bathrooms to each family group. Leighton, Morris, Baker Cooper Lodge and the Tree Houses all offer a personal bathroom for each family groups. Should you be in a cabin that has two wings, please note that each wing has its own bathroom. Please be sure to respect other families and only use the bathroom that is designated for your family and the wing that you are registered for. Personal bathrooms in the lodges will also not be entered by staff over the weekend – should you need toilet paper/paper towel please let our staff know and we will be happy to provide you with that. Guests in the Tree Houses have personal bathrooms assigned to their Tree House and will use the showers in Klinger Hall. Shared bathrooms (Klinger, the Loo and Hickory) are cleaned and sanitized multiple times/day by camp staff. As you will read below, families are assigned a designate table in Klinger Hall for their meals. Should your family choose to spend time in Klinger Hall, please be sure to sit only at your designated table.
Do we have to wear a mask?
The health and safety of all our campers and guest is our first priority. YMCA Camp Eberhart is not considered a public space, however, there are a few times that we are still required to ask families to wear a mask. This includes Check-in for the health screening, while in the Arts and Crafts building and if your family chooses to spend time in Klinger Hall outside of meals. Most of our activities at camp are outdoor programs and do not require a mask. Additionally, masks are required while inside Klinger Hall (standing in line for your meal, in the bathroom, at the camp store, etc) but not while seated at your table and eating your meal. All the tables will be spaced accordingly and we ask that families are conscientious of their spacing. We do ask that guests wear a mask in the craft building as it is a smaller enclosed space. Many projects can be taken outside to enjoy where a mask is not required. Should you feel more comfortable wearing a mask, you are welcome to do so at any time except for while boating and swimming.
What meals are being served and how will meal service be conducted?
We are looking forward to proving our guests with Saturday continental breakfast and 6 more delicious meals while at camp, ending with breakfast on Monday. Please note that we are not a nut free facility this summer! Each family will be provided a pre-designated table(s) for their family to dine at for the entire weekend. Some items will already be placed on the table prior to the start of the meal (water pitcher, cups, silverware, etc) and single serve cold items that do not require shared tongs will be available on the cold bar. We do ask that adults always accompany children to the cold bar. The hot meal will then be available through the service line and served by food service staff. Meal service for each meal is one hour long and families can join us anytime during that hour – please feel free to stagger your arrival so that you do not have to wait in line long for hot food – the dining hall is typically busiest between 15 and 30 minutes into the meal service time. When your family is done eating, we ask that all plates and dishes are emptied and neatly stacked on your table for our staff to clear after meal service. *Peanut Butter and Jelly are available at every meal.
Internet and Cooling Stations
Internet is available in Klinger Hall and Obenchain Lodge. There is no password to access the internet in these 2 buildings. Additional, both these buildings are air conditioned for the entire weekend and serve as cooling stations as needed for your comfort.
Camp Snack Shack, Camp Store and Tye-Dye Shirts:
The camp store is located in Klinger Hall and will be open during breakfast and lunch on Saturday and Breakfast on Sunday. Items for sale include apparel, water bottles, Nalgene bottles, stuffed animals, flashlights, sunglasses, hats and more. The Snack Shack is located at the waterfront and will be open Saturday afternoon. All snack items are $1.00 or $2.00. cash only. Tye-Dye shirts are available for purchase at the camp store in Klinger Hall for $8.00.
What activities will be available to our family?
We are pleased to be able to offer a variety of activities. Staffed weekend activities include: canoeing, kayaking, paddle boards, archery, lanyards, wagon ride, climbing tower, crafts, candles, tye-dye, night hike and more. In addition to these activities, there are many additional activities to enjoy on your own, including basketball, frisbee golf, hiking, gaga ball, tetherball and human foosball. Families are welcome to bring bicycles to ride on camp property and must observe all State of Michigan helmet laws. Trail Rides and Arena Rides are also available on Saturday and Sunday.
Firewood at Camp
Please do not bring firewood to camp. YMCA Camp Eberhart provides a load of firewood to each cabin on Friday night and will refill firewood at each cabin on Saturday. These two loads of firewood are complimentary for our guests and typically last the entire weekend.
Quiet Hours and Emergencies
Please note that quiet hours in camp begin at 10pm. After 10pm, please refrain from loud music/loud activities and respect that other families have young children that are likely sleeping by this time. Should you have a true emergency and need immediate assistance please call or text 269-718-2220.
