Day Camp Frequently Asked Questions
As parents or guardians, we know you have questions surrounding our programs at YMCA Camp Eberhart, and Day Camp is no different! Please see frequently asked questions below:
What should my child bring to camp each day?
Campers should come to camp each day wearing sneakers and having had already applied sunscreen. Please pack their backpack to include the following: Filled water bottle, sunscreen, bathing suit/towel, sandals, or flip flops (can only be worn to and from the waterfront), and raincoat if needed.
- water bottle
- bathing suit
Additional suggested items:
- mosquito repellent
- change of clothes and shoes (in case of getting wet, dirty, etc.)
- lightweight jacket or sweater
What activities will my children be doing at Day Camp?
Day Camp Days at YMCA Camp Eberhart are action-packed and full of fun! In addition to 3 Activity Periods, campers will also swim daily (weather permitting) and have the opportunity to take a trip to the camp store. Activities include climbing tower, arts and crafts, arena rides (equestrian), canoes and kayaks, Archery, BB Guns (9+), Nature & Outdoor Living Skills, tubing, hiking, gaga ball, and a wide variety of sports and games (just to name a few)!
When will we see our camper's schedule?
We believe in providing a mix of pre-scheduled activities and also giving campers the opportunity to autonomously choose activities on their own and as a group. The first day of each week our campers will work with their counselors to choose a few of their own activities and help create their schedule. To allow for this planning, schedules will come home on Tuesday afternoon.
Do day campers choose their own schedules?
Not exactly. To ensure that day campers experience a wide variety of activities, their schedule will be partially completed before their arrival. On the first day of each session, campers will be able to work together to choose activities for the remaining “open” periods. Completed schedules are sent home on Tuesdays.
What will my camper eat?
We provide a nutritious and balanced hot lunch entree every day, offering kid-friendly food options as well as a sandwiches and salad! We are also a nut-free facility and happy to provide vegetarian and vegan options. Should you have a dietary concern, please feel free to call and speak to our Food Service Manager. She is the best in the biz and happy to ensure your child has a healthy, delicious meal each day!
Where and how do I drop-off/pick-up my camper?
Drop-off and pick-up both happen at the day camp barn located just past the equestrian paddocks. Drop-off is between 8:45-9:00 AM. Parents will need to sign their camper in each day. Pick-Up is between 4:15 – 4:30 PM. Parents will need to sign their campers out each day and present a picture ID until our staff has gotten to know you!
What happens on the day camp overnight?
Campers (minimum age of 9) stay at camp and take part in an additional afternoon activity, enjoy dinner in our dining hall, participate in an evening program and wrap up their evening with S’mores around the campfire. Campers will sleep in stone cabins, Dave’s House, or Obenchain Lodge dependent upon enrollment. The following morning campers will have breakfast in the dining hall before meeting back up with the returning day campers.
